Springboard was started by a steering committee in 1976 to meet the needs of families with children who had any form of special need, and required more staff time, stimulation, and understanding than a usual playgroup could offer. Its first home was in The Bridge Centre in Chippenham, followed a period in the old kitchens of Westmead School and thereafter a portacabin in the grounds of Frogwell Hospital, which was our home for 5-6 years. In 1990 a new home was found on a plot within Frogwell School site, where we stayed until September 2010.
In August 2010 Springboard moved to what was then the King’s Rise Children’s Centre and opened to children and families in September 2010. In July 2019, The Rise Children’s Centre moved out of the building. In September 2019 Springboard became officially known as Springboard Chippenham and the Centre was re- named King’s Centre.
