Our History

Springboard was started by a steering committee in 1976 to meet the needs of families with children who had any form of special need, and required more staff time, stimulation, and understanding than a usual playgroup could offer. Its first home was in the Bridge Centre in Chippenham, followed a period in the old kitchens of Westmead School and thereafter a Portacabin in the grounds of Frogwell Hospital, which was our home for 5-6 years.  In 1990 a new home was found on a plot within Frogwell School site, where we stayed until September 2010.
